Zhero has signed a framework agreement with Tesla Energy, together with H1 Holdings, to advance approximately 3 GWh of battery energy storage projects in Italy. The portfolio will start with 200 MW of ready-to-build projects.
Project summary
- Country: Italy
- Total storage capacity: Approx. 3 GWh
- First phase: 200 MW of ready-to-build projects
- Developer / Project pipeline: Zhero
- Development / IPP partner: H1 Holdings
- BESS supplier: Tesla Energy
- Product: Tesla Megapack
- EPC: Tesla Energy integrated EPC offering
- Commercial model: Energy market participation supported by long-term offtake arrangements
- Status: Framework agreement signed; first 200 MW ready to build
Under the current arrangement, Zhero will contribute projects from its Italian BESS pipeline, while H1 Holdings brings large-scale project development and independent power producer experience. Tesla Energy will supply its Megapack battery storage systems and support delivery through an integrated EPC offering.
The commercial structure is also worth noting. According to Zhero, the projects are expected to participate in the energy market with support from long-term offtake arrangements, providing a clearer route to market while reducing reliance on regulated support mechanisms such as Italy's MACSE storage procurement scheme.
Zhero currently has a growing 1.5 GW standalone storage pipeline in Italy, spanning large-scale projects, medium-sized systems at strategic grid nodes and smaller integrated solutions for industrial sites. The company says its first storage asset is expected online by 2027.
Zhero describes itself as a developer, owner and operator of large-scale renewable energy and storage projects across EMEA and North America, while H1 Holdings is participating as an experienced developer and IPP partner in the Italian portfolio.
The framework therefore goes beyond a straightforward battery supply agreement. It combines Zhero's Italian project pipeline, H1 Holdings' development and IPP experience, and Tesla Energy’s Megapack technology and project delivery capabilities across a multi-project storage portfolio.
