#CATL Partners with Alfen to Accelerate Sodium-Ion #EnergyStorage Deployment in Europe Recently, Dutch energy solutions provider Alfen and CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd.) announced a partnership to promote the deployment of 5GWh sodium-ion #bess across the European market. According to #Alfen, the cooperation represents a further expansion of the existing partnership between the two companies. Previously, Alfen and CATL had already collaborated in the lithium-ion energy storage sector, and this new agreement extends their cooperation into #sodiumionbattery technology. Alfen stated that the two companies will work together to advance the application of CATL’s sodium-ion battery energy storage systems in Europe, addressing the region’s growing demand for energy storage. However, it is worth noting that the two companies have not yet disclosed specific project locations, individual project capacities, or delivery timelines. Therefore, the 5GWh figure represents the planned deployment scale of the future cooperation rather than a single completed energy storage project. As the global energy storage market continues to expand, concerns around battery resource availability, safety, and cost competitiveness are becoming increasingly important. Sodium-ion batteries are gaining attention due to the abundance and wide distribution of sodium resources, offering potential advantages in supply chain resilience compared with lithium-based technologies. For large-scale grid energy storage projects, a diversified range of battery technologies is becoming an important development trend. The future energy storage market may enter a new phase where multiple battery chemistries compete and complement each other.
