20kWh High-Voltage Sodium-Ion Battery Residential Storage Arrives, Bringing a New Player to the Euro
<p>Over the past few years, the European residential energy storage market has been almost entirely dominated by <strong>lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries</strong>. Whether in major home storage markets such as Germany, Italy, or the UK, mainstream products have primarily adopted lithium-ion battery solutions.</p><p>However, as concerns around <strong>battery supply chains, safety, and costs</strong> continue to grow, another battery technology route is rapidly entering the market. Recently, German energy storage startup <strong>Revolta</strong> launched a <strong>high-voltage sodium-ion residential energy storage system</strong>, aiming to bring sodium-ion battery technology into the residential solar storage sector.</p><p><img src="https://energyplanet.oss-cn-shenzhen.aliyuncs.com/uploads/images/20260803175731_5badc20e.png" alt="" style="width:100%" loading="lazy" decoding="async" /></p><h2><strong>First High-Voltage Sodium-Ion Residential Energy Storage System</strong></h2><p>The product launched by Revolta is a <strong>high-voltage sodium-ion energy storage system</strong>. According to information from its official website, the system features:</p><h3>▍Modular Design with Maximum Capacity of 20kWh</h3><p>Revolta's energy storage system adopts a modular expansion design. Each battery module has a capacity of <strong>2kWh</strong>. Users can configure the system according to household energy needs, with up to <strong>10 modules combined to reach 20kWh</strong>. At the same time, the modular structure supports multiple installation methods, including <strong>stacked installation and horizontal arrangement</strong>, allowing it to adapt to different residential space requirements.</p><h3>▍High-Voltage Architecture with a Rated Voltage of 450V</h3><p>Traditional low-voltage residential storage systems usually require multiple battery modules connected in parallel. However, Revolta adopts a <strong>high-voltage architecture</strong>. The system has a rated voltage of <strong>450V</strong> and can be matched with high-voltage hybrid inverters. According to the company, the high-voltage design helps the system maintain more stable operation and improves efficiency performance in small-capacity energy storage applications.</p><h3>▍Only 19kg per Battery Module</h3><p>For residential energy storage, installation convenience is a critical factor. According to Revolta, each battery module weighs approximately <strong>19kg</strong>, with a footprint smaller than an A4 sheet of paper. However, as the number of cells increases, performance differences between individual cells may create additional balancing and management challenges.</p><p>Revolta stated that its system uses <strong>three larger battery units</strong>, combined with independent control and real-time balancing technology, to reduce efficiency losses caused by differences between individual battery cells. The company also claims that the system does not require traditional battery matching processes and improves energy output capability throughout the entire lifecycle through real-time balancing technology.</p><p>Currently, sodium-ion batteries are still in the early stages of commercialization. Compared with lithium iron phosphate batteries, which have already developed mature supply chains, sodium-ion technology still requires further improvement in <strong>large-scale manufacturing, cost control, and market adoption</strong>.</p><p>However, as the European residential energy storage market continues to grow, future home storage technology routes will become increasingly diversified.
