Project Overview

The Tarong Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a 300 MW / 600 MWh standalone grid-scale battery storage project located at the Tarong Power Station precinct near Nanango, Queensland, Australia. Developed and owned by Stanwell Corporation, the project commenced commercial operations in February 2026 and is co-located with the existing Tarong coal-fired power station. Using 164 Tesla Megapack 2XL lithium-ion battery units installed by Yurika, the two-hour BESS provides renewable energy firming, peak demand support and grid stability services for Queensland’s electricity market.
